Let’s break down the most common things our CoolSculpting clients worry about and figure out whether you have reason to worry about your treatment.

Are you worried about CoolSculpting risks?

With every procedure — even non-surgical, non-invasive ones like CoolSculpting — there are potential risks and side effects. Let’s break down the most common things our CoolSculpting clients worry about and figure out whether you have reason to worry about your treatment.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive, non-surgical way to reduce stubborn pockets of fat in the stomach, arms, legs, back, love handles, double chin, and elsewhere.

The treatment works by lowering the temperature in the treatment area until the fat cells freeze and die off. Your body naturally flushes out these cells over the course of the next several weeks.

Is CoolSculpting painful or unsafe?

Due to the nature of the procedure, it’s actually very safe and well-tolerated.

CoolSculpting is designed to only target fat cells, so it poses no risk to your skin cells or organ tissue. Plus, it’s FDA approved and involves no needles or surgeries.

That said, CoolSculpting is NOT approved for those with the following conditions: cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobulinuria.

Luckily, CoolSculpting is not painful. During the treatment, you may experience a pulling or tingling sensation as the applicator suctions to your body. As the temperature lowers, you may also feel cold against your skin, but within a few minutes the treatment area will go completely numb! Most of our patients sit back and relax, or even nap, during their treatment.

Does CoolSculpting have a lot of side effects?

An overwhelming number of patients report that they experienced no side effects following their CoolSculpting treatment.

However, some people report that the treatment area appears red, or feels tingly, numb, sensitive or sore. These side effects are temporary and will go away within a few days!

In EXTREMELY rare cases, CoolSculpting can cause Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH), meaning that the fat cells in the treatment area grow rather than shrink. It’s more commonly found in male patients, though women can experience it also. Luckily, this issue can be corrected with liposuction. It’s a rare enough side effect that it shouldn’t worry you!

Should I worry?

Overall, CoolSculpting is safe and poses very little risk for side effects. Compared to surgical liposuction, CoolSculpting is easy breezy!
